Something in the Woods (2022) Review
Nora Thompson, a reporter, has become an overnight celebrity by exposing Senator Morrison’s illegal activities. As a result of the harmful exposé, the senator commits suicide, and his daughter kidnaps Nora and takes her deep into the woods to avenge her father. While Nora battles for her life, they encounter something evil hunting them. Now, the two women must work together to stay alive.
Topped and tailed by a couple of unconvincing TV news report clips, SOMETHING IN THE WOODS is a bit of a mess.
It’s one of those films where, after being pursued by a monster, two women seem to completely forget about the beast that both chased and scared the crap out of them both, and instead start bitching about a magazine article that one had written about the other. I imagine that the natural reaction would be for both to piss one’s pants, given what had just happened, rather than get back to the bitchfest, but no, they don’t – it’s that kind of movie.
To say that the monster effects are very dodgy would be an understatement, and the POV shots for the very same monster only serve to remind the viewer that there’s a new PREDATOR movie out, called PREY, which is what they should be watching instead of this. The score is kinda good, in an occasionally twinkly sounding way, but otherwise there’s nothing to recommend in this risible monster movie offering.
