Talk to Me (2022) Limited Edition 4K UHD/Blu-ray Review
Talk to the hand as Second Sight Films is definitely listening, with their brand-new, Limited-Edition makeover of TALK TO ME – the scary as hell, twisted hair raiser – from the amazingly talented sibling writer–director duo Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou. The film is set to be a real conversation starter with its 4K UHD/Blu-ray dual release, presented in a stunningly designed packaging and chock full of special features. It’s set for release on 23 June 2025 alongside Standard Editions.
Proving themselves a force to be reckoned with, YouTube stars Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou, had everybody talking about their impressive feature debut lauded as… ‘An undeniably head-turning debut’ (Telegraph), ‘a strong entry into the realm of modern horror, delivering visceral thrills, practical effects and a fresh approach to classic horror techniques ‘(Love Horror), and ‘a brutal ending that’s the best this genre has seen so far this decade’ (Den of Geek).
TALK TO ME follows a group of teenage friends who take part in a dangerous new party craze, that uses an embalmed hand to open the door to the spirit world. As they push the boundaries more, the group get way more than they bargained for when they unleash deadly supernatural forces… with truly shocking consequences.
The film features cast of brilliant young actors including Sophie Wilde (BABYGIRL, BOY SWALLOWS UNIVERSE), Alexandra Jensen (BEAT, THE MOOGAI) and Joe Bird (RABBIT, FIRST DAY), star alongside screen favourites Miranda Otto (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, THE THIN RED LINE) and Zoe Terakes (WENTWORTH, THE OFFICE).
Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou – both of whom previously worked on director Jennifer Kent’s acclaimed 2014 film THE BABADOOK – made their names with their horror/comedy channel RackaRacka on YouTube. With TALK TO ME, their feature film debut, they have the idea of someone holding a ceramic encased hand, with the purpose of connecting with the dead, both entirely plausible and frightening real. You will wince each time another participant has a go and then subsequently becomes possessed as they let their (hopefully) chosen spirit in.
TALK TO ME is one of those rare movies that lives up to the hype, I don’t scare easily nor am I easily surprised, or in this case shocked, by the events that unfold onscreen, but with the film I was both unnerved and kept on the edge of my seat. Australian YouTuber twins Danny and Michael Philippou’s feature debut is both nasty and unnerving, getting under your skin and staying there long after. This is confident and assured filmmaking that packs an unexpected emotional wallop.
