Reportage November (2020) Review
A mysterious death of a mother and the disappearance of her child leads a group of freelance journalists to the outback of Sweden. The group of four, led by the famous journalist Linn Söderqvist, will make a reportage about the happening and search for leads missed by the police. Equipped with cameras and supplies to survive in the forest for days, they wander out in the woods to find the truth.
REPORTAGE NOVEMBER is yet another found-footage flick. Anyone who follows this site will know by now, found-footage is not a genre that I have warmed to. Far too often they simply follow the same template as the others, however there is a neat twist to the narrative later on, but until that genuinely appeasing reveal, this otherwise offers no more than you would expect.
It begins with various locals/talking heads telling you nothing that our investigating foursome haven’t already told you – aside from some very juicy gory details courtesy of a nurse who chose to remain anonymous. From there on, we get to hear what the foursome have planned – although, it’s rather disconcerting that none of them thought to ask each other prior to venturing into the woods if anyone knew how to pitch a tent, until they actually needed to pitch a tent – and before you can scream ‘BLAIR WITCH PROJECT’ they’re walking in circles and shouting at each other.
Where REPORTAGE NOVEMBER manages to raise itself above other found-footage flicks, is by having the neat twist which I referred to earlier, and for being better acted and directed than ninety per cent of the others I’ve seen. The cast are likeable, especially Jocke – he’s so scrumptious that I can forgive him for venturing out, alone, in the dark to investigate the very same sound that he earlier found ‘unsettling’ – and if you’re a fan of found-footage then this is a must-see. If you’re not then chances are that you’ll not be choosing it for your evening’s viewing anyhow.
