Lips of Blood aka Lèvres de Sang (1975) Review

Frederick sees a photograph of a ruined seaside castle, which triggers a strange childhood memory. He then goes on a strange quest to find the castle and the beautiful woman who lives there.

Directed by Jean Rollin With LIPS OF BLOOD director Jean Rollin again offers up his usual static mix of nudity and artistic framing that will delight his hard-core fan base but leave everyone else feeling like ‘so what’.

The director had a knack of offering up erotic images that lacked a charge and consequently leave you feeling indifferent and bored, and LIPS OF BLOOD proves no different. It’s a shame as cinematographer Jean-François Robin has framed everything beautifully, meaning that such visuals are left with nothing substantial elsewhere to back them up.

Rollin, who also has a cameo a cemetery caretaker who meets with a bloody end, was forced to shoot a hard-core version entitled Suce-moi vampire (France, by ‘Michel Gand’) or Suck Me Vampire (USA, by ‘Mike Gentle’).
