The Pey (2021) Review
The Pey (2021) Review
Back awhile I was contacted by a film-maker, based in LA, by the name of Ramone Menon to review his full-length feature film THE BLACK TAPE (2014). Jump forward a few years and Ramone has been kind enough to reach out to me again to cast my critical eye over his short horror film THE PEY.
The film is about a social media obsessed teenager who is hunted by a terrifying monster known as The Pey after she shares a mysterious GIF online. Ramon describes his short film as THE RING meets SEARCHING with a touch of ALIEN.
In reading the film’s synopsis you do wonder if Ramone can bring anything new, anything fresh to an increasingly populated genre of social-media based flicks and, whilst it is fair to say that he doesn’t reinvent the wheel, he has fashioned a delightfully brisk tale that grips and entertains more in just nine minutes than any number of full-length horror flicks fail to do in ninety.
