The Long Dark Trail (2022) Review

An official selection for numerous prestige film festivals around the globe, including Weekend of Fear and The Festival De Cannes Blood Windoal Selection, director ‘s THE LONG DARK TRAIL premieres on Digital, DVD, and Blu-ray February 21 from Cleopatra Entertainment.

STAND BY ME meets MIDSOMMAR in an unnerving new folk horror tale from writer-directors Kevin Ignatius and Nick Psinakis. Two impoverished teenage brothers escape the clutches of their abusive father and set out on a long adventure into the woods hoping to be reunited with their estranged mother, who had left the family home some time ago and has joined a sadistic cult, deep in the woods of Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Impressive cinematography and terrific sound effects helped distract from the amateur performances which sometimes threatened to affect being immersed in the story. I didnt feel the movie needed to be seperated by chapters either, this actually took away from the experience rather than adding anything of any value.

Overall though THE LONG DAY TRAIL is entertaining. It had me wanting to know what was waiting for the brothers around each corner. I was invested in it throughout and genuinely felt for the boys’ wellbeing. A generous 6/10 from me.
