Killer Kites (2023) Review

When Abby’s grandma dies, the only thing she inherits a stupid kite – after giving it to her brother; he is mysteriously killed, and the kite disappears. While searching for the truth, she is tangled in a strange supernatural plot, where this killer kite continues to kill! Now, Abby must string together a way to stop the kite before it blows us all away. Kites may not be the scariest monster ever, but they’re up there.

KILLER KITES’ cast and crew know that what they are serving up is stupid and everyone involved relishes that stupidity and the resulting film is to be admired for that. The cast and crew evidently had a lot of fun and for a short while there’s fun to be had for the viewer too.

After that short while though it’s evident that there’s little more here than the odd laugh. It’s harmless, it has potential but would have worked better as ten-minute episodes rather than as a feature length film where even at an hour its charms wear off quickly.

There’s plenty of references made to the cast and crew’s previous film – SEWER GATORS – and the character of Daniel is a constant delight, more so when he removes his shirt – but aside from that writer and co-director Austin Frosch along with the film’s other director Paul Dale (SEWER GATORS, SILENT BUT DEADLY) fail to make this as much fun as it should have been.
