A truly unique and darkly funny home invasion thriller is coming exclusively to ARROW this month. “An insanely impressive directorial debut” (Collider) for writer-director Chris Skotchdopole, CRUMB CATCHER is a chilling yet hilarious ode to the failure of the American dream and was highlighted as one of the Best Horror Films of 2024 by The Hollywood Reporter.

After blacking out during his wedding night, Shane (Rigo Garay) and his new wife, Leah (Ella Rae Peck), head to a remote house for their honeymoon. Their plans to find wedded bliss are hampered when there is a knock at their door. It’s the waiter, John (John Speredakos), and the bartender, Rose (Lorraine Farris), from the reception blackmailing Shane for something he can’t remember doing. As tensions escalate, it soon emerges that the blackmailers don’t just want money. They’re after business partners for their invention, a revolutionary device called… The Crumb Catcher.

Black comedy/horror flick CRUMB CATCHER marks the feature film debut for director/writer/editor Chris Skotchdopole. It plays out like a twisted variation on the otherwise now all too familiar home-invasion theme. Reminiscent in places of FUNNY GAMES, a far better movie, this likeably quirky flick sets up the scenario well but does not have the legs to carry the momentum all the way through till end and instead runs out of juice before the midway mark.

The acting is good especially the performances from both John Speredakos, as John the creepy hotel waiter, and Lorraine Farris as bartender Rose as his accomplice. There’s extortion, power shifts, dark comedy, and psychological drama. What I felt was lacking was a sense of anywhere new to go. Audiences nowadays are movie savvy enough to know the beats that follow a plot set-up such as here, so consequently there is not much in the way of real surprises.
