Blood Covered Chocolate (2022) Review

When a recovering drug-addict named Massimo is bitten by an ancient, shapeshifting monster, he must fight to save his girlfriend Tien from the same bloody fate.

Written and directed by Monte Light, BLOOD COVERED CHOCOLATE is stylish and both the photography and film’s lighting are tiptop but tonally the movie is all over the place and I also found it difficult to care about anyone onscreen. The performances are committed but failed to convince and, like the film and its near-constant score, everything plays out like a patchwork of segments from different flicks cut together rather than play-out as a cohesive whole.

The clips used from vintage movies were a nice touch and hit the spot but otherwise it’s all style and no real substance. I failed to see how this was in any way ‘black-and-white horror homage to the classic NOSFERATU’, admittedly it is vampiric in nature and yeah, it’s filmed in black-and-white (much like the Max Schreck starrer from 1922) but other than that, nothing! It’s a great title, just a shame about the film.
