Black Pumpkin (2018) Review
On October 31, 2018, two preteens in a small town accidentally awaken an evil that has lain dormant for decades. They are forced to survive through a terrifying Halloween night of cat-and-mouse, from the monster known as “Bloody Bobby”.
Written and directed by Ryan McGonagle BLACK PUMPKIN is a pleasing if knowingly generic Halloween offering that is rather oddly being released in the lead up to the festive season rather than at the time of the year in which it is set. It’s an agreeable time-filler even if there’s nothing particular new to see with too many similarities to John Carpenter’s original HALLOWEEN flick and to a smaller degree director Michael Dougherty’s 2007 offering TRICK ‘R’ TREAT. However there’s a great synth score, an agreeable cast and plenty of gory killings to ensure that this appeals to horror fans across the board.
