Mirror Mirror (1990) Arrow Player Review
Director Marina Sargenti delivers a chilling tale of dark forces and possession in her 90’s supernatural horror MIRROR, MIRROR starring genre favourites Karen Black (EASY RIDER) and Yvonne De Carlo (THE MUNSTERS).
A teenage girl begins receiving black magic power through an antique mirror that drips blood, not realizing the mirror is controlled by demonic forces.
MIRROR MIRROR is CARRIE but with a supernatural mirror instead of telekinesis. Bullied high school outcast Megan Gordon (played by Rainbow Harvest) looks and dresses like Winona Ryder’s character Lydia Deetz from BEETLEJUICE and this brings her to the attention of the school bitch and her pose who ridicule and bully her.
As you have no doubt gathered by now MIRROR MIRROR is your standard ‘teen outcast enacting revenge on their high school tormentors’ flick. It plays well for a short while but soon becomes repetitive and predictable. It is also too long. Fortunately, an array of familiar faces help ensure that MIRROR MIRROR is not as completely flat as it could have been.
There is the late great Karen Black – always excellent value – along with BLADE RUNNER’s William Sanderson and, in an early role, Stephen Tobolowsky who went on to feature most notably as Ned in GROUNDHOG DAY. MIRROR MIRROR received a limited theatrical release back in 1990 before finding an audience on the home video market a year later. Two sequels followed – MIRROR MIRROR 2: RAVEN DANCE (1993) and MIRROR MIRROR III: THE VOYEUR (1995).
Mirror, Mirror is available to stream now on ARROW.
