OVERKILL is the latest in a long line of genre flicks that has a podcaster or social influencer as its primary focus. It is is a darkly lit, low-budget slice-and-dice with a small but still healthy body count that had the potential to be so much more but instead hampers itself with murky picture quality and the occasional scene that feels amateurish.
On the plus side the kill scenes, although brief, do hit the spot and the acting is on point considering the film’s independent status. However, once the killer is revealed we are ‘treated’ to the slasher equivalent of a Bond villain explaining to the film’s lead why it is that they have done what they did so rather than have a climax that excites it ends up ending up on a dull note.
