Pig Killer (2022) Review
Pig Killer (2022) Review
Based on the terrifying true story of Robert ‘Willy’ Pickton, the pig farmer turned prolific lady killer whose horrific crimes shocked the world. PIG KILLER graphically depicts Pickton’s felonious farmhouse of rape, torture, slaughter, and dismemberment of almost fifty women. With his herculean hog, Balthazar, by his side, Willy and his menagerie of colorful cohorts terrorized Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside for almost two decades until his 2002 arrest that uncovered the most bizarre series of murders Canada has ever seen.
PIG KILLER, written and directed by Chad Ferrin, made for one of the most baffling viewing experiences I believe that I have ever had. There’s a decent film playing out here, and Jake Busey is on top form as serial killer Willy but what’s going on with the film’s score? It’s always at odds with the horror unfolding onscreen and at times it rendered the film totally unwatchable.
Within the first half-an-hour of this two-hour film the viewer is aurally bombarded with song after song. In fact, it became so annoying that after thirty minutes I found that I could watch no more so consequently this is not a full review, which is why there is no score out of 10. I liken the experience to having someone keep talking over a film that I am attempting to watch. After a while you can’t concentrate on both and you give up, I didn’t know whether I was watching a film or listening to someone pushing their repertoire of songs. Sorry to all involved as I could see that there was a decent watch behind the constant music, but I found it difficult to focus.
