The Fostered (2025) Review

After their parents’ tragic murder-suicide, twin sisters are taken in by a gentle foster mother and her resentful husband. As tensions rise in the dysfunctional household, it is unclear whether the danger comes from the cruel foster father or from them.

As far as lower-budget movies go THE FOSTERED is better than average but in the grander scheme of things it is also too by-the-numbers to stand out. The acting is reasonable, the characterisations basic and aside from a late plot twist the narrative is run-of-the-mill.

There are parts of THE FOSTERED that don’t make sense, for example how is it that during the vetting process no one spotted that foster dad Kevin is far from being the ideal foster parent, also you end up questioning why on earth Amy has stuck with him for so long. And then there’s that late twist which ends up at odds with part of the plot/set-up prior, **SPOILER ALERT** why would a childless couple have a room set up for fostering with one bed too many?

There are a plenty of ‘boo’ scares, persons unseen lurking in the shadows, and a knife left under the foster parents’ bed mattress to gee things up and it all moves along at a respectable pace. It’s imperfect however this does not prevent THE FOSTERED from providing a reasonable hour-and-a-half’s entertainment.
