Take From Me (2025) Review
Starring Ethan McDowell (THE WALKING DEAD, THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES, and SPACE COMMAND) as John, TAKE FROM ME is a slow-burn, ultra-low budget character-driven thriller about a grieving man who becomes entangled with a mysterious woman, while a local police captain investigates a string of unexplained disappearances.
From IMDB: TAKE FROM ME is a gripping thriller that follows the life of John, a grieving local man, as he finds solace and intrigue in a mysterious young woman who purchases his old farmhouse. Simultaneously, a sense of unease grips the town when a resident goes missing, leading the local police captain to suspect a sinister presence looming over their community.
The film was shot entirely in Northern Virginia with a small local cast and crew, on a modest budget. It recently won Best Picture at the Red Rose Film Festival, an audience award, and screened at two festivals in the UK.
Written and directed by West Eldredge, his directorial debut, TAKE FROM ME (originally entitled LOVE DOGS), plays out for the most as a mediation on grief, with the film’s lead character John drinking a lot and reflecting on the lost his young son. The methodical pacing and the lack of scares in the film’s earlier stages may alienate the gorehounds amongst you however for those happy to go with the film’s steady flow, they will be pleasantly surprised and rewarded by a bloody climax.
Filmed for less than 90k but with a cast and cinematography that can both match and exceed the standards found in most bigger budgeted fare, TAKE FROM ME, is a vampire movie with a difference. It is not about cheap scares or providing a stack of ‘boo’ moments, it focuses more on grounding its characters and storyline, providing back stories for handyman John, the mysterious Elizabeth and Abe, head of the local police force so that when the blood starts spilling, we have empathy for each.
