Return to Splatter Farm (2020) Review

Thirty years after the infamous ‘Death Farm’ murders in rural Pennsylvania, serial killing is in season once more. A young woman and her friends descend upon the farm to party after discovering that she has inherited the land. But soon after, the strange occurrences and brutal murders begin again. The shocking sequel to the 1987 SOV cult classic SPLATTER FARM. Now available on DVD and Digital from Wild Eye Releasing!

RETURN TO SPLATTER FARM is the belated sequel to SOV horror SPLATTER FARM (1987). It plays as per the standard Eighties slasher template and for a short while it looked like I was in for a treat. However at just seventy-one minutes running time RETURN TO SPLATTER FARM still manages to runs out of steam, flatlining when it should really be peaking. This is a shame as its otherwise crammed full of killings that are both gleefully gory and imaginative and the film’ cast are refreshingly (for a slasher flick) agreeable.

RETURN TO SPLATTER FARM has been co-directed by Mark Polonia and consequently, given the meagre budgets at their disposal, you’ll see faces in the cast that also crop up in his other recent release SHARK ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND. But don’t let that put you off! This is by far a much better film and could have been better had the pacing packed more zest. Oh and if you haven’t seen the original SPLATTER FARM film that’s cool, you can still check this out as it works well as a stand-a-lone.
