Mister Creep (2022) Review

Three college students stumble upon a lost television broadcast of a deceased serial killer and search for its location. They discover a nightmarish cover-up of a clown-faced man who killed hundreds and may still be around long after his death.

Written and directed by Isaac Rodriguez (A TOWN FULL OF GHOSTS) MISTER CREEP weighs in at just over an hour’s runtime. There’s plenty of ideas thrown into the mix, along with nods to genre classics – the title character reminded me of Mr Bojangles from SINISTER, the doll reminded me of SAW, and there’s even a female character breaking down in front of the camera that recalls a key scene in THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT.

What MISTER CREEP doesn’t have is a coherent structure, instead the narrative jumps about from one unconvincing setup to another with nothing ever hitting the spot properly. You can see how it should play out – as a standard found-footage flick – but it rarely, if ever, convinces, or makes any real sense and unfortunately it ends up as a poorly assembled hodgepodge of ideas both familiar and otherwise.
