Mary Had a Little Lamb (2023) Review

A universally known children’s story turns slasher horror film in MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB, directed by visual effects artist and animator Jason Arber (MEG 2 : THE TRENCH), which has been acquired by Uncork’d Entertainment for a release this fall.

A radio host and her crew set out to discover the truth behind some disappearances for a true crime show. They will soon learn that there is far more to discover when they meet Mary and her lamb. Who will make it out alive of this house of horrors?

Utilising some of the cast from UnCork’d Entertainment’s other nursery-rhyme-inspired horror flick THREE BLIND MICE, director Jason Arber’s MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB is otherwise a totally different beast. Where Pierre B’s mutant-rodent flick had a zippy pace and gore galore, this one takes its time to unleash the horror and loses momentum with a more dialogue-heavy script.

It has its moments; check out the moment when the man-lamb pulverises someone’s head on a car windscreen, but ultimately dialogue-heavy scenes win the day here in place of thrills. Also, having a radio host trying to salvage her ratings by going somewhere remote for a potential career-saving story smacks of the recent trend of having social influencers also trying to gain ground by doing much the same.
