Limbo (2019) Review

A murderer finds himself on trial in Hell, caught between a bitter prosecutor and an inexperienced defence attorney.

LIMBO has an interesting premise laced with some humour, which occasionally works, and decent performances but unfortunately the film’s strengths are undone but the leisurely pacing and final plot twist that underwhelms. Until then we spend the rest of the movie watching a debate unfold as to the merits of a deceased murderer, who’s in ‘limbo’. The murderer’s prosecutor and attorney are thrust into a meaningless debate that appears to be attracting a lot of heat for no real discernible reason.

It all becomes clear with a final twist that unfortunately leaves the viewer feeling cheated. Had we watched a battle for the soul of an individual, whose case was more contentious, and therefore more dramatic, then perhaps the end result would have been more satisfactory and the finale wouldn’t leave one feeling duped rather than surprised. There’s no drama, no surprises and if it wasn’t for a game cast and the appearance of the always wonderful Veronica Cartwright then this would have been a harder slog to sit through.
