Evil Little Things (2019) Review

A young boy finds a mystical toymaker with stories to tell. The first is of a leprechaun seeking revenge on a defenceless family. The second is of a doll who works evil on her fragile owner. The toymaker gives the boy a clown named Giggles. Clowns are supposed to be the guardians of happiness, right? These EVIL LITTLE THINGS will cause you many sleepless nights.

Director Matt Green’s EVIL LITTLE THINGS is a clumsily plotted anthology that makes little sense but will pass the time nicely if never offering up nothing new in the mix. I liked that the film afforded ample breathing room to three stories rather than bog-down the viewer in too many segments as some anthologies are want to do.

However the anthology’s dolls are some of the oddest looking dolls you’ll ever see grace a genre flick. They never really look like the sort of dolls you’d want in your possession and unfortunately that only adds to the general disbelief that lingers over this anthology like a dark cloud – just check out that freaky leprechaun doll! On a technical level the sound mix is a bit jumbled and even some of the editing jars, so much so I did wonder if there was a glitch on the copy I was sent to review. Overall EVIL LITTLE THING is watchable but in a kind of car-wreck kind-of-way.
