A Rough Draft (2018) Review
A Rough Draft (2018) Review
From the writer of NIGHT WATCH comes the highly-anticipated new film from director Sergey Mokritskiy, ROUGH DRAFT out now on DVD and Digital Download!
Written by Sergei Lukianenko, author of Russian blockbuster NIGHT WATCH, and directed by PROTEST DAY director Sergey Mokritskiy, A ROUGH DRAFT is set in and around the concept of open world video gaming, following a man without an identity nor memories who plays middle-man to corresponding worlds. Kirill’s (Nikita Volkov) identity has been eliminated. Erased from the memories of everyone around him, Kirill will be forced to serve as the gatekeeper of a portal that connects parallel worlds.
This had the potential to be a fun, inventive Saturday night’s viewing but its impact was crushed by the worst dubbing I’ve seen inflicted upon a movie since Seventies martial arts flicks. Actor’s lips flap but no dialogue is heard. It proves very distracting and it robs A ROUGH DRAFT of any entertainment value it may have had. Next time I’ll seek out a copy in the film’s original language. I’ve never been adverse to subtitled films but I do have issues with dubbing that lacks the feeling and emotional drive that the onscreen action desperately cries out for.
