A young girl wakes up imprisoned underground, with amnesia. She must escape, unravel the mystery behind her captivity, and confront her personal struggles. A suspenseful tale of survival, truth, and inner turmoil unfolds.
THE CELLAR marks the feature-length film directorial debut of actor Jamie Langlands. The film is near dialogue-free as our lead character Abigail (Meghan Adara) wanders around near vacant locations. Dialogue usually comes whenever there’s a flashback to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings she’s attended and whose members have gone missing. The numerous scenes of Abigail walking through near empty buildings has a feel of a survival horror game, with visual clues cropping up as a wink to viewers as to what it is that is really going on.
As to what THE CELLAR is about or means, well, that gets left completely to the viewer to interpret so therefore this film is unlikely to appeal to the average popcorn-munching, plot spoon-fed movie fan. The near endless wandering around near empty locations and what she encounters on her way Abigail’s battle with addiction. THE CELLAR has atmosphere, it is style, but for my money there needed to be more substance onscreen also.
