Womb (2025) Review
Inspired by the all too real horror of foetal abductions, director Bridget Smith (SNO BABIES, THE RETALIATORS) explores this devastating crime and the twisted motivations behind the perpetrators in deeply disturbing horror WOMB. The film is set to arrive on digital this April courtesy of Reel 2 Reel Films. A pregnant woman becomes trapped in a remote cabin fighting to escape the clutches of a deranged killer, hellbent on abducting unborn baby. Prepare to experience every mother’s worst nightmare in the harrowing horror Womb.
Director Bridget Smith’s WOMB is initially slow to get going and generic, there is too much in the way of dialogue scenes choking up the film’s first half-hour. Once the scenario has been established WOMB finds its groove becoming a surprisingly grim and if often nonsensical flick that despite the niggles will no doubt engage and please many that tune into this horror-thriller.
WOMB veers towards being exploitational, which will appeal to gorehounds looking for their fix of bloody entertainment, but such exploitation feels at odds tonally with what is otherwise a run-of-the-mill thriller. The performances are fine however it’s the script’s keenness to amp up the shock value that undermines WOMB.
Shock value is always welcome but here it feels ramped up simply for shock’s sake and often it makes next to no sense – **SPOILER ALERT – such as gouging out someone’s eyes rather than killing them, when earlier on that very same person had no issues killing people is inconsistent and simply there to elicit a shocked response from the viewer. Overall WOMB delivers a reasonable evening’s entertainment, just don’t expect much of it to make sense.
