British writer-director Steven Nesbit (GLOVES OFF, A VERY BRITISH CHRISTMAS) makes his acting debut as the delusional, strapped for cash, ghost hunter Wallace Peebles in his wacky new supernatural mockumentary feature. The film is set to haunt screens this spooky season when it arrives on UK digital 13 October, courtesy of Miracle Media.
Paranormal investigator Wallace Peebles (Nesbit) and his incompetent gang of researchers are lured to a New York warehouse to exorcise spirits in exchange for some much-needed cash.
But it is not just ghouls Wallace needs to watch out for… there is a mole within the group who has their own fiendish plan… steal a collection of long-lost Irish crown jewels hidden in the warehouse. As loyalties are tested, the motley crew must work together to escape the haunted lock-up before evil forces take over.
After a shaky start this supernatural mockumentary finds its groove and whilst never laugh out loud funny or scary – not that it wants to be or sets out to be scary – it remains likeable thanks to the engaging cast. Instead of veering down the supernatural path – aside from the occasional glimpse of someone who looks like the main vampire from SALEM’S LOT – the story instead concerns a search for treasure.
Writer-director Steven Nesbit’s film is light, fluffy and insubstantial. It sets out to be complete and utter nonsense and succeeds in doing so. The cast are having so much fun that you do not mind watching despite the lack of expected scares. This could have easily been a family flick if certain content were toned down. It is not great, but it is certainly not bad either and as an undemanding time filler it hits the spot nicely.
