The Killing Tree (2022) Review
On Christmas Eve, a scorn widow casts an ancient spell to resurrect her executed husband. However, when the spell goes wrong, the husband is brought back as an Evil Christmas Tree. Hell-bent on getting revenge on the one who caused his execution, the body count keeps rising as the Tree hunts her down. Can anyone stop this killer Christmas tree before he gets to his target?
Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield is a name to watch. In my recent batch of forthcoming film releases, I received two movie titles where Mr Frake-Waterfield called the shots – THE AREA 51 INCIDENT and this. And whilst both movies suffer slightly from a saggy midsection, they both more than compensate for such shortcomings elsewhere.
THE KILLING TREE really shouldn’t have worked – after all, it’s a movie about a serial killing Christmas Tree – but it does, and right from the start – when the deceased’s wife accidentally resurrects the villain in Christmas Tree form – this British comedy horror had me hooked.
What’s particularly pleasing, and as well as being this film’s ace card, is the serial killing Christmas Tree. The character’s dialogue and delivery are top drawer stuff, providing ample laughs whenever it’s onscreen, and in turn, it elevates THE KILLING TREE to being one of this year’s unexpected guilty pleasures.
Here’s looking forward to Frake-Waterfield’s forthcoming, and much hyped, Winnie-The-Pooh horror flick BLOOD AND HONEY.
