The Girl in the Pool (2024) Review
Tom is struggling to maintain his composure during his birthday celebration as he’s secretly concealed the body of his murdered mistress in his family’s home. Paranoia grips him as he navigates through whispers and cryptic hints from those around him.
As he delves deeper into the mystery, he discovers he’s not the only one hiding something, leading to a tense unravelling of truths and betrayals amidst a desperate search for answers, revealing a twist that nobody could have seen coming.
Starring Freddie Prinze Jr. (SCOOBY-DOO), Monica Potter (SAW), and Kevin Pollak (THE USUAL SUSPECTS), The Girl in the Pool is written by Jackson Reid Williams and directed by Dakota Gorman (NATURAL DISASTERS).
There are absolutely no surprises to be had here but you won’t mind going along for the ride anyhow. It’s cheesy and derivative and watching Prince Jr’s Tom teetering on the edge of a complete nervous breakdown makes for an unexpectedly fun evening’s entertainment, albeit for entirely the wrong reasons.
Freddie Prinze Jr’s Tom would make for a terrible poker player, every single facial expression that he pulls for the duration of this enjoyably silly thriller would have had me screaming at him to fess up! Next to no one in the film seems to notice Tom’s constant and obvious discomfort or distress. It’s a pleasure to see Monica Potter onscreen again, both her and Kevin Pollock add enough weight to prevent this from drowning as quickly as the girl of the film’s title.
