The Boatyard (2025) Review
After their boat breaks down, a group of college students are trapped between the devil and the deep blue sea as they’re hunted down and tortured by a pack of deranged cannibal killers. Mike Ferguson (THE AMITYVILLE RISING, DESERT DAWN) and Susan Lanier (THE HILLS HAVE EYES, CUT!) star as ravenous homicidal maniacs in Dale Stelley’s (PARADISE, BOMB PIZZA) horror feature.
THE BOATYARD is a film of two halves, with the first half being a chore to sit through. Our aural senses are bludgeoned by ear-splitting music, if you can call it music, perhaps I am just showing my age, and dialogue-wise there is little else but constant demands of the women for sexual favours. Are youngsters nowadays really like this? I truly hope not – their demise cannot come quick enough!
Fortunately, this is where the film picks up. I liked the youngsters much more when they are begging for their lives and against all the odds THE BOATYARD becomes a lot more fun to watch. Some situations are absolute preposterous – such as a straight man being easily seduced by a gay man – and others have not been thought through properly. Also, every location is devoid of ANYONE else, such as the marina and the bar that are both featured throughout. Overall THE BOATYARD is saved by a second half that despite the odds remains silly and fun making up for the film’s grating opening act.
