Garden Party Massacre (2017) Review
GARDEN PARTY MASSACRE is a comedy/horror film about a friendly gathering that goes awry when an uninvited guest arrives…with a pickaxe, and an attitude.
This turned out to be a lot more fun than I had originally anticipated enhanced by a couple of neat plot twists along the way to help spice things up a bit. Not all of the humour works but the cast’s enthusiasm and the bouncy score enhance the film’s strengths and helps play down the odd flat patch.
Along the way questions pop up in your head, such as why the neighbours haven’t responded to their screams, but these are addressed and come the film’s finish everything has been wrapped up nicely with no lose ends. So do stick with it, even when you think ‘why hasn’t this happened’ or ‘why haven’t they done this yet’, I guarantee you that it all holds together.
GARDEN PARTY MASSACRE is in the same vein as SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004) and TUCKER AND DALE vs. EVIL (2010), if not in the same league, but it is still a very welcome breath of fresh air given our current humour vacuum with the coronavirus pandemic.
