Death to Metal (2019) Review
After a freak accident, a disturbed priest is transformed into a mutated killing machine on a mission to wipe out the godless fans of heavy metal music. He has Died. He has Risen. He will Kill.
DEATH TO METAL sees Tim Connery, the film’s co-writer and director, seize the opportunity to merge his passion for music with his love of campy slasher films. With fluid camerawork, earnest performances, well-defined characters and a banging soundtrack Connery’s film feels like it has all the right ingredients to deliver but somehow you can’t help thinking that it needs that something extra to push it up to eleven.
For the most part though this Iowa-based comedy is pleasingly dumb fun that nods back to the glory days of Troma. I understand that all the bands in the film are real musicians and it shows, whilst musically it’s not my bag it works for the film and adds value. Grab yourself a six-pack and enjoy! This has the potential to become a cult favourite.
Original Music By – Greg Burgess, Riley McShane, Michael Stancel, Brandon Michael, Brandon Park, EXMORTUS, Mutilated by Zombies and Boar. Additional Music By – Driftless Sisters, Inquiring Blood, Monolithe, Nethervoid and The Rising Plague
