Blood Born (2021) Review
After struggling to conceive, Eric and Makayla hire a witch doctor from the Gravida Foundation to help them conceive. Ola moves into their home, taking over their lives as she puts them through a series of magical rituals. As the ceremonies take a toll on the couple, they discover that their baby might not actually be human, leaving them to decide how far are they willing to go for the family they’ve always wanted.
When I read the plot synopsis for BLOOD BORN I wasn’t expecting to become enthralled in a story that covers similar ground to a couple of classic movies from yesteryear but, to my surprise, I did! Director Reed Shusterman (GOBLIN QUEEN) tapped into his own fears or pregnancy and parenthood when writing BLOOD BORN and it shows how writing from personal experience can bring that extra something to the script.
After having reviewed a number of substandard and disappointing low-budget flicks for some time now I must admit that BLOOD BORN was a lot of fun! It’s well-made, directed and very well acted too, especially Melanie Haynes as Ola, and although I thought I knew the path it would inevitably take Shusterman’s movie still managed to keep me engaged and entertained throughout.
