Bermuda Island (2023) Review
Passengers on their way to a tropical paradise crash at sea and find themselves on a deserted island. Desperate to survive the elements and infighting between survivors, they find that the island has more in store for them than they could ever imagine.
Perhaps unintentionally so, director Adam Werth’s BERMUDA ISLAND kicks off as being the funniest movie set on an airplane since um, AIRPLANE! Onboard literally everyone seems to fear that the plane will crash (it does) and then everyone that survives (which is so much more than you would ever expect) look remarkably unscathed – Hell, the plane’s pilot not only managed to keep hold of his hat throughout the crash but still feels the need to wear it!!!!
The laughs continue as the survivors do their best to adapt to their island surroundings. One of them is feeling the hear so starts to disrobe to cool down. What’s wrong with seeking shelter under the plethora of trees nearby. Also there’s most evidently a nice breeze blowing too. However, my favourite moment is when someone says that he thinks that there’s something/someone out ‘there’ when it’s VERY obvious that there is someone out ‘there’, everyone can see it as clear as day as it’s stood RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM but no, obviously they are all so stupid that it takes someone to point it out before they realise.
Elsewhere the film’s two most recognisable faces are out of the picture even before the plane crashes and once the beach’s beasties make an appearance the film runs out of juice. The gore is well done, but insipid lovey dovey interludes drag down the pacing and loses one’s interest. There’s a twist in the tale but by then the laughs of the first half-an-hour have given way to quite the oddest and illogical survival flick you can imagine. You have to see it to believe it!
